![]() After Zagreus successfully bribes Cerberus with a Satyr Sack to let him by without violence, Hades realizes that he needs to become personally involved and heads off Zagreus at the snowy grounds on the living side of the Temple's archway, having donned his Helm of Darkness and brought the spear that is the basis for his symbol, Gigaros, to vanquish his son and banish him all the way back to the House. He berates Zagreus upon the prince managing to progress from Tartarus to Asphodel, from Asphodel to Elysium, and finally from Elysium to the Temple of Styx. Additionally, he will sometimes order shades to congregate near Zagreus in order to punish him (time trials). He is resentful of Zagreus' repeated attempts to escape the Underworld and greets his returns with scorn and mockery. Meanwhile, Hades seems to have left much of the caretaking and raising of Zagreus to Nyx. He employed Achilles to teach Zagreus fighting and give him more of a "firm direction in life". He is shown, in the Remembrances that play before some escape attempts, to have been strict and often cruel with Zagreus during his childhood. Hades is stern, serious, and dedicated to his work. He is in charge of maintaining order within the Underworld, determining the placements and punishments of the dead, and hearing the petitions of shades that come before him. Hades is the god of the Underworld and of the mineral riches of the earth, the lord and master of the House of Hades, and the father of Zagreus. Though, how was your wanton ransacking of my domain? I told you nobody gets out of here, whether alive or dead. Now stuck forever in the swirling green waters of the River Styx, Hades has a lot of time to reflect on how he only has himself to blame.Stupid boy. In his pursuit of absolute power, Hades became ignorant to details that would eventually cause his downfall. Power crazy and devious, Hades set his sights high. Hercules sent the Titans packing, and as for Hades, he got to know the Underworld a whole lot better than he had ever known it before… Proving himself a true hero, Hercules was saved from death at the last second by being restored as a full god. Hercules’s life force is drained away, and he comes close to death. Hades, wanting rid of Hercules, tricked him into going into the River Styx to retrieve Meg’s soul. But as part of the deal Hades made his fatal mistake – he agreed for Meg not to be hurt.īut, in the fierce battle between Hercules and one of the Titans, Meg became fatally injured, breaking the deal made with Hades. Hercules gave up his god-like abilities for one day as part of a deal to keep Meg safe, and guarantee Hades that the Titans could be released. He used his female prisoner Megara as bait for Hercules. When Hades discovered that Hercules was alive, he set up an evil scheme to rid of him himself. Hades sent his two (incompetent) minions, Pain and Panic to dispose of the child, and they did – or so Hades thought. The Fates had told Hades that Zeus’s son Hercules would be his downfall. ![]() A rarely occurring certain alignment of the planets meant that the Titans could be unleashed. Hades held Zeus in contempt for this for millennia, until something happened that made Hades set in motion his evil scheme to overthrow his brother for good. His brother Zeus became head of all the gods, and Hades got the short end of the straw- he was sent to be keeper of the Underworld, where all dead souls end up. ![]() Things did not go so well after that for Hades though. ![]() His parents once ruled the world (the Titans), but were rounded up and banished to the deepest, darkest depths of the Earth by the Younger Gods. Hades is the hot headed, wise cracking god of the Underworld. ![]()

![]() Some basic Googling can tell you whether or not a book sets markets. Moneylines begin when a market-setting sportsbook opens a line. That is, moneylines are usually a bit more bettor-friendly. The gist of it is, to get the “true” implied probability from a line, one must divide the implied probability of the line by the total implied probabilities of all options in the market.Īs a general rule, one should expect fairly low vig in moneyline markets compared to many other types of bets like props and futures. This page has more information about what is vig in sports betting. To figure out how much vig is in a market, one must perform some simple math based on the moneylines offered. The bookmakers want to turn a profit, so they include some vig, outside of maybe a few promo offers that may happen every now and then. The difference in numbers represents the vigorish, commonly called the vig or the “juice” – what the bookmaker charges for accepting your action. A market with say – one team being +380 and the other team being -380 represents a fair market, one with no vig. That brings us to: How does the sportsbook earn money booking moneyline bets? “Those percentages add up to more than 100.” “Hang on,” you may be saying to yourself. In the above example, San Francisco has a 79.16% to beat Detroit while the Lions have a 25.64% chance of pulling the upset. How do we figure out the implied probability from a moneyline? Substitute the absolute value of the American odds for “x” into these equations: Many fans would likely find it interesting to know their team had, say, a 20% chance to pull an upset over a favored team. In this way, even non-bettors can gain valuable information about event probabilities by tracking the betting market. They represent the current market expectation of a game. Moneylines at a sportsbook represent more than just betting opportunities. Betting the Moneyline: Implied probability So, +400 means you would win $400 on a $100 wager. ![]() This number reflects the potential winnings on a $100 stake. The underdog will have a plus sign with a number. So, -400 means you must wager $400 to win $100. ![]() The number reflects the stake needed to win $100. The favored team is denoted with a minus sign, followed by a number. American odds use a “plus/minus” system based around $100 wagers. That is, you’ll risk a lot to win a little, “laying” the sportsbook a price.ĭifferent regions of the world use different odds formats. It’s not as simple as betting good teams to beat bad teams because the payouts on the moneyline reflect the situation. The payouts for the moneyline wagers vary depending on the respective competitors’ perceived strength in the betting market. Since the favorite is considered the team with the better chance to win, a winning wager will usually pay out less than the original amount wagered. A bettor would need to wager $180 to win $100. On the other hand, let’s say you want to bet the favored Bengals at -180. This side of the moneyline bet pays out more money per unit than a wager on the favorite. Bettors often like picking underdogs because they are usually “plus” money. ![]() Browns bettors would also get their original $100 back. A $100 wager on the Browns at +155 would pay $155 in profit if Cleveland wins the game outright. The easiest way to understand moneyline wagers is by using a $100 bet. For this example, we’ll say the Bengals are moneyline favorites with a number of -180. The moneyline odds above are live for this week’s MNF game between the Bengals and Browns. ![]() ![]() If you’re looking for a green shade that is not too flashy, then Conservative Gray by Sherwin-Williams is your color. In other words, is the executive (the Law Commission) recommending that the legislature (Parliament) muscle in on judicial terrain? Does this threaten the separation of powers? For example, National MP Nick Smith was punished for contempt of court for his scathing criticisms of the court and one of the parties in an ongoing Family Court case. And let’s not forget that it’s sometimes MPs themselves whose statements create grave risks to the administration of justice. ![]() That’s surely a good point.īut I wonder whether it misses another constitutional issue: don’t judges need to control the reach of the power to punish those who impede the administration of justice? If Parliament defines what sorts of behaviour might threaten the administration of justice, Parliament can change those definitions. The Commission says that there’s a constitutional issue here: Parliament should set the parameters of the criminal law the judges’ role it to interpret the criminal law, not create it. It’s the only crime that remains defined by judges not Parliament. This is because the law of contempt is largely not a creature of statute. In general the Commission favours codifying the law. ![]() They think we should dump the vexed distinction between civil and criminal contempt. They suggest that when someone commits contempt in the face of the court, they should have the right to a hearing before another judge if they are to be punished beyond locking them up for the day. In workplace situations, small talk tends to occur mostly between workers on the same level, but it can be used by managers as a way of developing the working relationships with the staff who report to them. They can comfortably accept silence in circumstances that would be uncomfortable for two people who were only casual friends. Couples in an intimate relationship can signal their level of closeness by a lack of small talk. The need to use small talk depends upon the nature of the relationship between the people having the conversation. This type of discourse is often called chatter. The entire short conversation is a space-filler. In that example, the elements of phatic talk at the beginning and end of the conversation have merged. Paul: Oh, morning, William, how are you doing? William: Fine, thanks. The following example of small talk is between two colleagues who pass each other in a hallway: In some conversations, there is no specific functional or informative element at all. That can be due to human evolutionary history as a social species, as in many other social animals, silence is a communicative sign of potential danger. Generally, humans find prolonged silence uncomfortable, and sometimes unbearable. Tension can be reduced by starting phatic talk until a more substantial subject arises. Space filler to avoid silence: in many cultures, silences between two people are usually considered uncomfortable and/or awkward.Small talk can be used to mitigate that rejection, affirm the relationship between the two people, and soften the parting. At the end of a conversation: suddenly ending an exchange may risk appearing to reject the other person. ![]() It allows them to signal their own mood and to sense the mood of the other person. If there is already a relationship between the two talkers, their small talk serves as a gentle introduction before engaging in more functional topics of conversation. In a business meeting, it enables people to establish each other's reputation and level of expertise. Conversation opener: when the speakers do not know each other, it allows them to show that they have friendly intentions and desire some sort of positive interaction. It lubricates social interactions in a very flexible way, but the desired function is often dependent on the point in the conversation at which the small talk occurs: Small talk is closely related to the need for people to maintain a positive face and feel approved of by those who are listening to them. In particular, it helps new acquaintances to explore and categorize each other's social position. It serves many functions in helping to define the relationships between friends, colleagues, and new acquaintances. In spite of seeming to have little useful purpose, small talk is a bonding ritual and a strategy for managing interpersonal distance. ![]() ![]() (12) By identifying the proteins via liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS), tear exosomes were found to carry more immune response-related proteins such as copine 1, calmodulin, and erythrocyte band 7 integral membrane protein, Annexin A4, and Annexin A11 in primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS) patients. (11) In terms of exosomes, both the morphology and miRNA expression levels of tear exosomes have been reported to provide the basis for the diagnostic application of primary open-angle glaucoma. To see the world of disease in a drop of tear, significant efforts have been made to detect tear components such as lactoferrin, lysozyme, glucose, and alcohol, for characterizing the pathology states including dry eye symptoms, (8) infections, (9) diabetes, (10) and even drinking. (5,6) In contrast to other ocular fluids, tears are highly accessible for biomarker analysis using the Schirmer test strip, (7) allowing us to discover the molecular signatures of disease and establish the non-invasive diagnostic methods. Typically, tear film has a volume of about 5–10 μL and shares parts of blood components via vascular permeating, indicating a prominent role of tears in deepening our understanding of ocular disorders and systemic diseases. (3,4) As one of the crucial fluid resources for exosome study, tears are secreted from the lachrymal gland for maintaining normal eye physiological activities. (1,2) Since small extracellular vesicles (sEVs, exosomes) reveal specific functions in various biological processes, including immune regulation, angiogenesis, tumor invasion, and cell migration, exosome-based liquid biopsy technology has offered an attractive alternative to disease classification and prognostic prediction. We believe iTEARS can be used for improving molecular diagnostics via tears to identify ocular disorders, systemic diseases, and numerous other neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.Ĭurrent clinical studies pose significant challenges in distinguishing disease subtypes with accurate molecular signatures and tracking the disease progression in a non-invasive way. We have also investigated 484 miRNAs in tear exosomes and show miR-145-5p, miR-214-3p, miR-218-5p, and miR-9-5p are dysregulated during diabetic retinopathy development. We have identified 904 proteins, among which 228 proteins are discovered, 426 proteins are detected from exosomes of dry eye disease, and demonstrate CALML5, KRT6A, and S100P for the classification of dry eye disease. We isolate exosomes rapidly with high yield and purity from a few teardrops (∼10 μL) within 5 min via nanoporous membrane-based resonators for the quantitative detection and biomarker discovery through proteomic and transcriptomic analysis. Here, we report an incorporated tear-exosomes analysis via rapid-isolation system (iTEARS) via nanotechnology to discover the secrets of ocular disorders and systemic diseases. However, the translations of tear sEVs for biomarker discovery and clinical diagnostics are practically limited by low recovery, long processing time, and small sample volume. Nanoscale small extracellular vesicles (sEVs, exosomes) in tears allow us to investigate the multisignatures of diseases. ![]() |
